The municipality is the westernmost in Slovenia, situated within the Julian Alps in the Upper Soča Valley, at the confluence with the Nadiža River, close to the border with Italy. In the southwest, the road leads to the neighbouring Italian comune of Pulfero. The area is located in the north of the historic Goriška region, itself part of the larger Slovene Littoral.
You can get to the Kobarid and Tolmin area from the Štajerska region (Maribor) through Ljubljana, Idrija and Most na Soči, through the Gorenjska region (Bled, Kranjska gora) over the Vršič Pass and through Bovec or through Škofja Loka via Sorica or Kladje.
From the Primorska area there is access through Nova Gorica. From Italy one can cross the border at Vrtojba in Nova Gorica or at Robič near Kobarid.
Motor cycles, private cars and vans whose maximum permitted weight does not exceed 3.5 tons must carry a vignette in order to drive on any Slovenian motorway

If you will fly in, most common airport to use would be Fraport Ljubljana Airport or Venice Airport - Marco Polo. There are major Rent-a-car companies at the Fraport Ljubljana Airport, taxis and BUS line to Kranj or Ljubljana.

The train goes from Ljubljana through Jesenice and along the narrow Baška Grapa to Most na Soči. From there it is another 7 km to Tolmin and 20 km to Kobarid (by car or bus).
You can buy train tickets at the train station or on the train itself. There is no need to book ticket in advance, just check their timetable.
Getting here by bus is easy. Buses are reliable, mostly on time and cheap. It might take some time to get here, as buses stop at every bus stop on their way. But scenery is very nice and you should be able to enjoy every minute of it.
There is a bus route for Ljubljana - Tolmin - Kobarid - Bovec and Bovec - Kobarid - Nova Gorica.
